The vinyl bonus
Scars of the Shattered Sky (Our Fortress Has Burned to the Ground), an instrumental piece of roughly nineteen minutes, appears as a bonus on all vinyl editions. It was recorded in 2003; the vinyl release came on March 2, 2007, on The End Records’ Infinite Vinyl Series. It can be read as the trilogy’s "ash" wing — what is left, long after the event.
Structural reading
I is not a fire but an intuition of fire: e-bow guitar textures, slowly rising tension, a warning that has not yet found speech. Here the shadow has not yet faced what it senses. II finds words; the trilogy’s only vocal piece opens with "The god of man is a failure" — the god the shadow had built as a fortress falls. III returns the song from text to texture; the instrumental close, titled "The Grain," echoes both grain (texture), grain (crop), and the album’s against the grain motif. Its real proposition can be read here: ash cannot stand against the grain; what stood against the grain was the shadow.

構造的な読解
I は火ではなく、火の予感である——e-bow によるギターの 肌理、ゆっくり高まる緊張、まだ言葉に至らない警告。ここで影は、自らが予感するものと まだ向き合っていない。II は言葉を得る。三部作で唯一の歌ものは 「The god of man is a failure」で始まる——影が城砦として築いた神が落ちる。 III は歌を言葉から肌理へと返す。「The Grain」と題された 器楽の結びは、grain（木目）、grain（穀物）、そしてアルバムの against the grain という主題のすべてを響かせる。その本当の主張はここに読める——灰は 木目に逆らえない。木目に逆らっていたものの名は、影であった。
